Programming FAQ

Every week, push your stamina, execution, and performance in our 75-minute drop-in class. 

This class typically includes a warmup, centre practice, across-the-floor and choreography. 

YDC session dancers, drop-in class is included in your package & is mandatory! We encourage our dancers to use this training hour to upskill to the next level. 

We offer drop-in classes for beginners, advanced beginners, beginner intermediates and intermediate heels and jazz-funk dancers. 

Pro Tip - Listen to your drop-in song before class! 

Let's get show ready, dancers! 

In your 10-week session, you and your dance team will have a private rehearsal hour. you will receive a link in your welcome package for your class’ google drive. 

During this class, you will learn performance choreography. 

Each week, your assistant will share a breakdown video and full-speed video of the choreography you learned in class. 

You will find the link to your dance videos in your team's google drive. you will receive a link in your welcome package. 

If you are having difficulties accessing your google drive. 

Please speak to your dance assistant. 

Pro Tip - Use breakdown videos to practise your dance routines before your next rehearsal! 

It's showtime dancers!  

You’ve put 10 weeks of sweat and sass into this moment. 

you and the entire YDC cast will take the stage in an epic live dance show. dancers of all shapes, sizes and levels perform in a minimum of 2 dances.  

The performance is recorded live! a digital copy of the show can be available for dancers who request a copy. 

We encourage you to invite your friends, partners, moms, and besties.

It's always a party! 

Tickets are typically on sale in week 07. Shows are typically held at the opera house.

YDC session dancers will receive a costume lookbook during the first three weeks of the session. This can be found in your inbox and your dance team’s google drive. 

Your costume fee is included in your 10-week session purchase. 

Our costume department will confirm sizing before purchasing. 

This department makes an intentional effort to pick size-inclusive garments and brands within budget.

Pro Tip: Stock up on skin coloured and black fishnets.

YDC session dancers are invited to an exclusive PJ party-themed event!. 

Dancers will receive a secret code in their inbox to score their $10,000000000000.00 ticket. 

Hosted at Society Clubhouse, we eat pizza, we laugh, and we watch our show together. 

This is not a mandatory event. but we can confirm fomo sucks. 

Pro Tip: Bring your own pillows and blankets for cuddle puddles.

Heels Class Levels

This class level is suitable for all dancers from Beginner to Advanced. Teachers and assistants will offer variations and modifications to ensure all dancers are comfortable yet challenged during class. This class is for everyone!

* No dance experience necessary! *

You’re a Beginner dancer if you love to dance at your local bar, but have never taken a formal dance class before. Or you have previous dance experience, but the last time you were in a dance class was over 5-6 years ago. 


Level Requirements

- No dance experience necessaryAll moves are completely broken down!

* Minimum 1 year of Heels Training * 


You’re an Advanced Beginner dancer if you have completed at least one full year of heels training. You have experience with YDC drills and are looking to improve your performance and choreography skills. Or you have previous dance experience, but the last time you were in a dance class was 1-2 years ago. 


Level Requirements

- Must have 1 year of heels dance training experience.

- Can execute a fast and slow strut without feeling off balance. 

- Can hold a bevel without feeling off balance. 

- Understands the basics of chest and hip isolation drills. 

- Experience learning heels choreography at a Beginner Level.

You’re a Beginner Intermediate dancer if you have completed at least two or more full years of heels training. You have deep experience with YDC drills and are looking to improve your performance,  choreography and technical skills. Or you have previous competitive dance experience in Jazz, Ballet or Hip Hop, but the last time you were in a dance class was about 1 year ago. 

 

Level Requirements

- Must have 2 or more years of heels dance training experience.  Or you have recent experience as a competitive dancer in Jazz, Ballet, or Hip Hop.

- Must exceed all the requirements of an Advanced Beginner Dancer. 

- Can execute a single pirouette while still working on technique. 

- Can pick up choreography confidently without feeling overwhelmed. 

- Can execute YDC heels drills confidently (chest & hip isolations, struts, melting pots, hip dips, weight transfers, turns) 

- Comfortable with structured improve and freestyle movement.

You’re an Intermediate dancer if you have completed at least three or more full years of heels training. You are technically proficient with YDC drills and are looking to improve your performance,  choreography and technical skills. Or you have previous competitive dance experience in Jazz, Ballet or Hip Hop.

 

Level Requirements

- Execute a clean single pirouette with proper technique.

- Can kick to 90-degree angleEasily pick up and remember 1-2 minutes of choreography during each rehearsal.

- Can do advanced drill sequence without exhaustion and/or stoppingCan execute a variety of dance styles (street funk/jazz/heels).

- Able to seamlessly transition between standing and floor work.
